Handwoven Care Guide

Although they do require some element of care handwovens’ do not need to be dry cleaned!

Handwashing & Air Drying

It is probably best to hand wash and air dry your handwoven wearables. All of my handwoven wearables have been hand washed and air dried as part of the finishing steps. The following is our tried and true process.

  1. In a clean basin add enough cool water to cover your handwoven.

  2. Add your choice of detergent… enough to wash a small amount of fabric… swish to evenly distribute through the wash water.

  3. Add your handwoven and gently agitate for a minute or so, allow your handwoven to soak for a minute or so and then agitate again.

  4. Drain your basin and rinse your handwoven until all of the soap has been removed. Do not wring your handwoven only squeeze to rinse or remove water.

  5. Add cool water to your basin again and Add your choice of fabric softener… a small amount will be sufficient… swish to evenly distribute.

  6. Add your handwoven and gently agitate for a minute, allow your handwoven to soak for a few minute and then agitate again.

  7. Drain your basin and rinse your handwoven until all of the fabric softener has been removed. Do not wring your handwoven only squeeze to rinse or remove water.

  8. Once a sufficient amount of water has been removed you can block your handwoven by gently wrapping and squeezing it in a clean dry towel. We like to step on it to squeeze out most of the remaining water.

  9. Finally, drape your handwoven over a drying rack or flat on some surface and allow it to dry.

  10. When dry you can gently iron and comb fringes if you desire.

Machine Washing & Drying

All of my handwoven Table Accessories and Household Linens have been machine washed and dried as part of the finishing process.

  1. I recommend a Gentle/Cold wash and then Tumble Dry on Low.

  2. Add your choice of detergent and fabric softener (if you desire).

  3. After drying in the dryer and while still warm you can hand flatten or for a crisper finish gently iron.
